PARKLAND - Rain and cold were the primary winners on Saturday as The Evergreen State College opened its 2017 track & field season at the PLU Open hosted by Pacific Lutheran University.
A total of five Evergreen athletes competed, four of them for the first time at the collegiate level.
The one returning athlete,
Camille Christenson, placed 15th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.86. She also competed in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a mark of 10.03 meters (30-00).
Ali Mackey opened the day for the Geoducks by placing 11th in the hammer throw with a mark of 28.94 meters (94-11).
Pauline Allen finished fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 14:29.53, and
Robin Bazan was eighth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 21:08.81.
Gabe Murrey-Inskeep was the lone Evergreen male competitor, and racing for the first time at any level, he finished 13th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.05.
The Geoducks should have their full squad - including defending national hammer throw champion
Zeb Hoffman - ready for their next competition, which comes on March 25 at the Peyton Scoring Meet hosted by the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
