CANBY, Ore. – It was a good day for The Evergreen State College track & field athletes at the Clackamas Community College Cougar Open held Saturday on the Canby High School track.

While there were only four Geoducks competing in the meet, they combined for one school record, three Cascade Collegiate Conference meet qualifying marks and a handful of personal bests.

The meet started on a good note for the Geoducks when Ali Mackey improved her school record in the hammer throw to 32.50 meters (106-7). That event was held at Clackamas Community College.

Competing in his first meet for the Geoducks, Jaz Smith earned conference qualifying times in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.66, and in the 400 hurdles where he finished in 1:00.08. Smith also leapt 6.03 meters (19-9 ½) in the long jump.

Camille Christenson had a strong day for the Geoducks. Already a conference meet qualifier in the triple jump, she improved her personal best in that event to 10.25 meters (33-7 ½), and she will compete in the conference meet long jump as well after leaping 4.90 meters (16-1). Christenson completed her day by clocking 13.70 in the 100-meter dash.

One more Evergreen athlete recorded a personal best as Gabe Murrey-Inskeep crossed the line in the 800 in a time of 2:07.10.

The Geoducks return to action next Saturday, April 29, at the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational hosted by Western Washington University in Bellingham.
