HWRC Project Timeline

HWRC Project Timeline

Following is the Projected Timeline if the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center Project is Funded:

  • Mid-March through late May, 2015: Issue a RFQ (Request for Quotation) to select an architect for the design and construction phase.

  • June 14, 2015: Take the award of the architect agreement to the Board of Trustees for approval (required for all major projects).

  • July 1 – August 31, 2015: Confirmation of the predesign concepts. If a different architecture firm is selected for design and construction, this will allow them to become familiar with the predesign concepts and student survey results.

  • August 2015: The College will submit a Supplemental Capital Budget Request to the Legislature for at least $4.8 million to address the mechanical upgrades needed for the pool and the gym. Request would be considered in the 2016 Legislative Session.
(Note: In 2014 the Legislature did not pass a capital budget. If this should happen in 2016, or should the Legislature not approve the funding request, the College would resubmit the request in August 2016 for the 2017 Legislative Session.)

  • Fall Quarter 2015 – End of Winter Quarter 2016: Design Committee works with the architect team to develop the predesign concepts into more detailed plans. This is the time during the project where the design evolves and changes may occur. College staff will provide input as to facility/infrastructure needs and technology needs. Cost estimates will be provided throughout this phase to ensure that the project stays within budget. Student input will be critical for this activity. At the end of this phase, the Design Committee will approve the final design documents.

  • Spring Quarter 2016: The architect team will complete the construction documents. This phase includes taking the project from final design to a level of technical detailing required to prepare the project for competitive bidding as required by state public works law.

  • June 2016: Take the cnstruction contract to the Board of Trustees for approval (required for all major projects).

  • July 2016 – Fall 2017/Winter 2018: Construction phase. The duration of the construction phase will depend on whether the Design Committee, along with input from College administration, decides to complete the construction in phases so that part of the CRC can remain in operation throughout construction or whether it is decided to take the entire CRC off-line at once in order to expedite construction. Changes may occur during construction; although changes will more likely be related to coordination issues in the field versus programmatic changes to the design.
