Evergreen Loses Heartbreaker at College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho scored nine of the game's final 11 points to defeat the visiting Evergreen Geoducks, 65-59, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball game played Saturday night at J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

With the win, the host Coyotes improve to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Evergreen is now 4-2 for the season and 0-2 in CCC play.

The Geoducks grabbed a 57-56 lead with 2:58 to play on Brittany Gray's three-point play, and they tied the score at 59-59 with 1:46 on the clock following another basket by Gray. The hosts responded by scoring the game's final six points, four at the foul line, while Evergreen turned the ball over once and missed two shots with the game still on the line.

The contest was close throughout with seven ties and 11 lead changes. Evergreen's largest lead was just three points just before the end of the first half while College of Idaho led by as much as eight points at the midway point of the opening period.

Gray had a big game for the Geoducks with 25 points and eight rebounds. The senior post was 9-for-14 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line in scoring her season-high point total. Sadee Jones, another senior post, led all players with 14 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive end of the floor. Jones also contributed 11 points for the Geoducks, who shot 38 percent (21-for-56) from the field and 75 percent (15-for-20) from the charity stripe. Evergreen won the rebound battle, 42-35.

The Geoducks struggled from beyond the three-point line, however, making two of their 14 attempts, and they turned the ball over 21 times.

Haylee Burnham led four 'Yotes in double figures with 17 points. Elisha Hensey scored 16, Alicia Jones 12 and Aleah Lowber 10 in the winning cause. Lowber, a guard, led her team with eight rebounds.

College of Idaho shot 39 percent (23-for-59) overall and made seven three-point baskets in 24 attempts.

Evergreen returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday night when it travels to Tacoma to face the University of Puget Sound in a non-conference contest.
