Men’s Basketball Defeats Lutes 76-71

The Evergreen State College men's basketball team defeated Division III member Pacific Lutheran 76-71 Tuesday night in the Costantino Recreation Center.

Evergreen tied the game up after Gloire Biongo scored two with 3:26 left in the first half and another two by Biongo extended that lead. The Geoducks went on a 13-1 run to take the 39-33 lead into the half.

In the second half, PLU came back and tied the game at 62 after Seth Hall recorded a free throw. Points were traded back and forth, and the Lutes took the 71-70 lead. Elijah Fuller made a two to give Evergreen the lead and after a turnover by PLU, the Geoducks extended the lead with a two by Fuller and sealed the win with free throws by Raven Frazier.

Evergreen was led by Biongo, who had 19 points, LaBrandon Price recorded 17 points, Lukas Kelly added 13 points and Fuller had 16 points. Price led on the rebounds with eight.

Pacific Lutheran was led by Leighton Kingma, who had 16 points, Jordan Thomas added 15 points and Hall had 11 points.

Evergreen shot 47.5 percent from the field to PLU's 49.1 percent. The Geoducks were 90.9 percent from the free throw line. Evergreen recorded five steals to PLU's 18 turnovers.

This was the third win for Evergreen over the Lutes. The last two meet-ups PLU came away with the win in Tacoma, but in Olympia, it was all Evergreen, who defeated PLU in 2015-16.

Evergreen is back in action on Sunday, Dec. 1 for an exhibition game at 5:15 p.m. against Saint Martin's. The Geoducks are back at home on Friday, Dec 6 at 7:30 p.m. to open Cascade Collegiate Conference play against Oregon Tech.
