COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – For the second straight game, Evergreen got double-double performances from two players as the Geoducks closed out the 2018-19 women's basketball season with a 73-64 non-conference win over the Walla Walla University Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
Junior center
Merrily Jones made it two straight double-doubles with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and senior guard
Alexcis Higginbotham finished her career with 19 points and 10 rebounds while also adding six assists, to lead Evergreen (2-22 overall).
Carolina Montes scored 22 points and Titi Graham added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolves (2-27 overall).
The Geoducks started fast as
Angela Sikora hit consecutive three-pointers followed by a Higginbotham triple, and the early 9-3 lead turned into a 24-11 advantage after the first period. Evergreen led 37-26 at the half and 56-43 after three quarters before a small Walla Walla run closed the gap to seven points with about six minutes to play.
Jones came up big at that point with four consecutive layups, helping Evergreen rebuild a 15-point lead at 66-51 with 3:54 remaining.
With Jones shooting 10-for-13, the Geoducks finished at 45.9 percent overall (28-for-61), and they were 7-for-13 from long range, including a perfect 3-for-3 by Sikora.
Joining Jones and Higginbotham in double figure scoring were Sikora and
Deidra Miller with 11 points apiece.
