HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Geoducks traveled to the Aloha State to soak up some sun and face off against the Chaminade Swords to begin their 2023-24 campaign. Evergreen was bested by the Swords, 78-65.
Abby Mundy (13) and
Sydney Vanness (10) led the scoring for the Geoducks (0-1) and were the only players to record double-digits for Evergreen. The Geoducks also had to player fall just shy of a double-double as
Jalyn Sackrider finished with nine points and eight rebounds and Evergreen's leading rebounder,
Mikail Montez, finished with 10 rebounds and eight points.
Sackrider scored the opening points of the match with a jump-shot, and the two teams were off to the races.
Chaminade (1-0) jumped out to an early lead and despite small runs from Evergreen, the Swords held their lead the entire quarter and ended the first quarter with a 23-13 lead over the Geoducks.
The second quarter was nearly identical to the first, and Chaminade extended their lead to 48-26 to end the first half.
Not much progress was made for Evergreen in the third quarter, but the Geoducks did manage to prevent the lead from ballooning any further and ended the third quarter with the deficit still at 22-points, 67-45 in favor of Chaminade.
The fourth quarter was the best quarter for Evergreen as they outscored the Swords 20-11 to bring the final score to a respectable 78-65 loss.
The Geoducks next game will be on November 15
