PARKLAND, Wash. – For their second game of the season, Evergreen went on the road to face-off against the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran. After catching fire from deep in the first half, the Geoducks went cold in the second half and lost 75-53.
Elijah McLaughlin led the offense for TESC with 12 points on 5-13 shooting from the field and 2-6 from beyond-the-arc.
Evergreen shot an impressive 7-14 from beyond the arc in the first half but couldn't sustain their shooting efforts in the second half as they went 1-9 from deep and 7-31 from the field.
The Geoducks came out with the starting lineup of
Jayden Upshaw,
Daniel Thomas,
Elijah McLaughlin,
Lane Kennedy and
Tyler Williford.
McLaughlin beat his defender off the dribble to score the first basket for the Geoducks. Pacific Lutheran went on an early run and Evergreen trailed 13-7 with 15:12 left in the first half.
The Geoducks fought their way back into the game and three by Upshaw trimmed the deficit to one point, 27-26. The Lutes responded and extended their lead but Evergreen relied on great outside shooting to keep the game close. McLaughlin closed out the half with a crafty step-back three-pointer to send the Geoducks into the half down 38-35.
McLaughlin scored the opening points of the second half with a mid-range pull-up jumper. Pacific Lutheran then went on a 15-4 run to extend their lead to 53-41 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the second half. Evergreen struggled to produce offense and with just over seven minutes, the deficit ballooned to 19 points, 63-44 in favor of Pacific Lutheran.
The Lutes held on to their lead and the Geoducks lost 75-53.
