SALEM, Ore. --
Mara Schwenneker (Jr.) was the top finisher for The Evergreen State College women's cross country team as she set a personal record on the 6-kilometer course at the George Oja Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19. Max Baeder (So.) led the Geoducks in the men's 8-kilometer race, also with a personal record time. The meet was hosted by Linfield University at Oak Knoll Golf Course.
Schwenneker placed 108th in the women's race as she completed the course in 25:18.60.
Maddie Morgan (Jr.) was timed at 30:45.20 and
Olivia Pare (Sr.) earned a time of 32:28.80. In addition,
Nadya Miller (So.) competed for the Geoducks.
The women's individual title went to Sage Brooks from Oregon State University with a time of 20:41.70.
Alauna Carstens, running unattached, was second in 20:48.60. Hannah Preisser from Carleton College (Minn.) was third at 20:56.00. Teresa Perez from the University of Portland took fourth in 20:57.10, while unattached runner Rose Perotin was fifth in 21:15.20.
Oregon State claimed the women's team championship with a score of 42 (1-7-8-12-14). Portland was three points behind OSU in second place at 45, and Carleton placed third at 75. Southern Oregon University followed in fourth with a score of 144 and San Diego Mesa College was fifth at 172.
Baeder grabbed 47th place in the men's race for Evergreen with a time of 25:44.80. Luis Esquivel Fr.) finished the 8-kilometer course in 27:40.60 and was 140th out of 260 runners.
Osvaldo Calderon (Fr.) of Evergreen registered a time of 27:46.40 and Rowan Hicks (So.) was timed at 28:11.30. Harlan Estrada (Jr.) crossed the finish line in 29:20.70. Additional runners for the Geoducks were Cooper Osborn (Jr.) and River Scheuerell (Sr.).
University of Portland runner Bradley Peloquin placed first in the men's race in 23:52.20. he won by 3.70 seconds, as unattached runner Jake Ritter placed second in 23:55.80. Robert Swoboda of CCC Elite was third at 24:09.70 and Nate Lantz from Portland was fourth in 24:12.10. Daniel Racle, also from Portland, placed fifth at 24:16.0.
Evergreen placed 16th in the men's team standings with a score of 447. Southwestern Oregon Community College also scored 447, but SWOCC was awarded 15th place on a tie-breaker. Portland won the men's team title with an almost perfect score of 19 (1-3-4-5-6). CCC Elite was second with a score of 81, Eastern Oregon University placed third at 112, Central Arizona College finished fourth at 128, and San Diego Mesa was fifth at 159.
The Geoducks will return to action on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships. The meet will be held in Portland, Oregon, at the Rose City Golf Course.
