MOSCOW, Idaho --
Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) put through 17 points for The Evergreen State College against the University of Idaho in an exhibition game for the Geoducks on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The game counted for the Vandals, who won 101-58 to improve to 2-3 on the season.
Campbell connected on 6 of 11 field goals, including 1 for 1 from 3-point range, and went 4 for 4 at the free throw line.
Bradley Graham (Jr., G) and
Tyler No (So., G) each provided Evergreen with 10 points. The Geoducks remained 0-3 following the exhibition game.
Jerry Boston Jr. (Sr., G/W) and Campbell each grabbed four rebounds for Evergreen.
Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) supplied four assists. Joseph, Graham, and
Kohrey Bridges (Jr., F) each registered one steal.
The Vandals' scoring chart was topped by Tyler Mrus and Julius Mims, each with 21 points. Mrus was 7 of 9 from the field, including 6 of 8 on 3-points shots. Mims was 8 for 11 on field goals. Jayden Stevens tacked on 13 points for Idaho, while Kolton Mitchell earned 10 points and five assists. Jack Bayne hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Campbell recorded the game's first basket on a layup. Mims cut the lead in half by hitting 1 of 2 free throws for the Vandals, before Joseph scored on a fast-break layup, as the Geoducks took a 4-1 lead with 17:59 on the clock.
A bit later, Evergreen led 7-6 following a 3-point basket by
Daniel Thomas (Sr., G). When No scored on a fast-break for the Geoducks at the 12:19 mark, Evergreen claimed an 11-10 advantage. TESC also led 14-13 on a layup by
Nathan Behr (Jr., F/W) as the clock reached 10:31.
Idaho went on a 5-0 run for an 18-14 lead, but a 3-pointer by No pulled the Geoducks within 18-17 with 9:38 remaining in the half. The Vandals were in front 28-19 with 7:18 to go after Mitchell sank a layup. Evergreen cut the margin to 30-26 with 5:43 left on a 3-pointer by Joseph, but Idaho closed the half with a 16-4 run for a 46-30 lead.
The Vandals tallied the first six points of the second half on trifectas by Mrus and Isaiah Brickner, before Campbell launched a successful 3-point shot to pull Evergreen within 52-33 at the 18:40 mark. The Geoducks were unable to get closer throughout the second half, as Idaho gradually pulled away.
For the game, Idaho shot 50.7% from the field (36 of 71), including 13 of 30 from behind the 3-point arc (43.3%). The Vandals were 16 of 29 (55.2%) on free throws. Evergreen connected on 39.2% of its shots (20 of 51) and made 5 of 19 three-pointers (26.3%). The Geoducks finished 13 for 18 (72.2%) at the free throw line.
The Geoducks will return to action with the start of Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday, Dec. 6 against Walla Walla University at the Costantino Recreation Center. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. PST.
