CENTRALIA, Wash. --
Joshua Coetzee (Sr., D) scored a goal to pull The Evergreen State College within 2-1 during Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 2, but Southern Oregon University scored 20 seconds later on its way to a 4-1 win. Prior to the game, the Geoducks honored the seniors on this year's team. The game was played at Tigers Stadium due to wet grounds at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Washington.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference victory improved SOU to 12-4-2 on the season, 8-2-2 in the conference. Ryosuke Tanaka scored a three-goal hat trick for the Raiders.
Evergreen concluded its season at 3-12-1 overall. The Geoducks finished 3-8-1 in the CCC.
Southern Oregon earned two goals in the first half. Tanaka opened the scoring at the 7:15 mark on an unassisted goal from 15 yards. His shot hit the left post and bounced into the goal. Jayden Cameron added a goal at 32:03 that was assisted by Evan Norconk. Cameron's shot was taken from 8 yards following a short through-pass from Norconk.
The Geoducks reduced the margin to 2-1 when Coetzee scored his second goal of the season on a 7-yard header on a corner kick at 57:52.
Alan Barragan (Sr., M), who took the corner kick, received an assist.
Tanaka registered his second goal of the game at 58:12 to give SOU a 3-1 edge. He shot from five yards after a short pass from Norconk. Tanaka completed his hat trick at 74:2 on a 15-yard shot to the upper right corner of the goal. Kaito Nakayama assisted on the play.
In addition to scoring for Evergreen, Coetzee provided the Geoducks with a defensive save in the first half. With goalkeeper
Brendan Gribek (Sr.) still on the ground after saving a shot by Norconk, Coetzee blocked the follow shot by Cameron at 29:25. Gribek earned five saves during the game.
SOU achieved a 25-10 advantage in total shots. The Raiders held a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Each team took four corner kicks. Cameron led all players with six total shots, while Norconk added five shots for the Raiders.
Kolby Juarez (So., M) topped Evergreen with four shots.
