Schwenneker Places 42nd in Women's Race at CCC Championships

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Mara Schwenneker (Jr.) from The Evergreen State College placed 42nd in the women's 6-kilometer race at the 2024 Cascade Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships, sponsored by U.S. Bank, on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Rose City Golf Course. The Geoducks placed 10th in the women's team competition.

Schwenneker led the Geoducks by finishing the race in 26:07.4. Tabea Shepler (So.) was Evergreen's second runner to complete the course as she registered a time of 30:17.8 for 67th place. Maddie Morgan (Jr.) was timed at 30:55.9, while Olivia Pare (Sr.) earned a time of 32:10.5. Nadya Miller (So.) completed the event in 41:29.4.

Kahea Figueira from the College of Idaho won the individual women's title in 21:53.9. Alyssa Johnson from Southern Oregon University placed second in 22:13.4, and Kylee Quinton from C of I was third at 22:23.2. Julia Gilbert, also from C of I, took fourth place at 22:30.0, and Fiona Fraser of SOU was fifth in 22:40.4

College of Idaho won its sixth consecutive CCC team title in women's cross country with a score of 25 (1-3-4-8-9). The Yotes achieved the CCC's automatic bid to the NAIA Championships, which will take place in Columbia, Missouri, on Nov. 22.

Southern Oregon and Lewis-Clark State College tied for second place at 83, with SOU claiming second on a tie-breaker and Lewis-Clark State placing third. Eastern Oregon University was fourth at 100, Oregon Tech placed fifth at 133, Bushnell University was sixth at 167, and Corban was seventh at 180. Northwest University and Multnomah tied for eighth at 214. Northwest won the tie-breaker to finish eighth and Multnomah was ninth. Evergreen followed in 10th place at 299 and Walla Walla University placed 11th at 306.

In the men's 8-kilometer race, Evergreen sophomore runner Max Baeder placed 28th. Evergreen took eighth place in the men's team standings.

Baeder completed the race for the Geoducks in 26:25.4. Jaydon Blackburn (So.) was 59th with a time of 27:48.0 and Rowan Hicks (So.) placed 67th as he crossed the finish line at 28:22.3. Luis Esquivel (Fr.) of Evergreen was 69th in 28:31.5. Osvaldo Calderon (Fr.) placed 73rd with a time of 28:46.6.

Also running for Evergreen were Harlan Estrada (Jr.) and River Scheuerell (Sr.). Estrada was timed at 29:53.4. Scheuerell achieved a time of 33.48.4.

Daniel Butler from the College of Idaho won the individual men's championship with a time of 24:12.9. He won by 16.2 seconds. Justin Ash from Eastern Oregon was second in 24:29.1 and Elias Everist from C of I placed third in 24:31.6. Fourth place went to Jack Gladfelter of Corban, who attained a time of 24:36.5. Haydon Bostrom from C of I was fifth at 24:51.1.

The College of Idaho, ranked #1 nationally in the NAIA, won the CCC men's title with a score of 24 (1-3-5-6-9). The Yotes earned the CCC's automatic bid to the NAIA Championships.

Eastern Oregon was second in the men's team standings at 59, with Lewis-Clark State in third at 88. Corban placed fourth at 117 and Southern Oregon was fifth at 148. Northwest ersity followed in sixth at 165, Oregon Tech was seventh at 172, Evergreen placed eighth at 251, and Multnomah was ninth at 272. Walla Walla  placed 10th at 288 and Bushnell was 11th at 297.
