Evergreen Seniors Score Awesome Victory over Mountaineers

OLYMPIA, Wash. - In an electrifying final home game, the Evergreen State College men's basketball team delivered an exciting and emotional victory over the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers, winning 83 - 80. The triumph was a fitting send-off for graduating seniors Jayden Upshaw, Deondre Russ, Lane Kennedy, and Tyler Williford, who showcased their skills and leadership in their farewell performance on their home court. This is the first time the Geoducks have ever defeated the Mountaineers! The team's success broke a 19-game losing streak and inspired hope and celebration among the friends, families, fans in attendance.

The first half saw a competitive matchup, with Evergreen scoring 33 points and Eastern Oregon holding a slight lead with 38 points. The Geoducks rallied in the second half, unleashing a remarkable offensive display with 50 points, while the Mountaineers managed 42.

The win can be attributed to the outstanding and unforgettable performance by Jayden Upshaw, who put on a show for the home crowd. Upshaw scored an impressive 33 points during his 32 minutes on the court, making 11 of 17 attempted field goals, including 5 successful three-point shots, and converting 6 of 7 free throws. His remarkable contribution was instrumental in securing the Geoducks' victory.

Elijah McLaughlin played a pivotal role, contributing 16 points during his 26 minutes on the court. McLaughlin made 6 of his 9 attempted field goals, connected on 2 of 4 attempted three-point shots, and showcased accuracy at the free-throw line, making both of his attempts.

As the Geoducks celebrate this unexpected and exciting win, the Evergreen community extends its gratitude to seniors Jayden Upshaw, Deondre Russ, Lane Kennedy, and Tyler Williford for their dedication and contributions to the team throughout their collegiate careers.
