Women's Cross Country

Schwenneker is Top Finisher for Geoducks at CCC Preview

PORTLAND, Ore. --  Mara Schwenneker (Jr.) was the first Geoduck runner to reach the finish line during the 6-kilometer race at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Preview on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Rose City Golf Course. Maddie Morgan (Jr.) also competed for The Evergreen State College women's team.

In the men's competition, Jordan Blackburn (So.) led the way for Evergreen in the 6-kilometer race. Max Baeder (So.) was the second finisher for the Geoducks in the men's 8-kilometer race.

Schwenneker completed the women's race in 26:08.10 and was 41st overall. Morgan registered a time of 31:13.53.

Blackburn placed 28th overall with a time of 26:25.21. Baeder took 41st and completed the course in 26:50.48. Rowan Hicks (So.) earned a time of 27:53.06, Luis Esquivel (Fr.) finished in 28:47.21, and Harlan Estrada (Jr.) was timed at 29:16.90. Osvaldo Calderon (Fr.) and Atticus Lauderdale (Fr.) also competed for Evergreen.

Evergreen placed 12th out of 14 teams in the men's standings. The Evergreen women's team did not field a full team.

In the men's 8-kilometer race, Daniel Butler from College of Idaho led a 1-2-3 finish for the Yotes. He crossed the finish line in 24:32.67. Teammate Hayden Bostrom was second in 24:40.04 and Elias Everist completed the trio of finishes in third at 24:42.44.

The men's team title went to 5th-ranked (NAIA) College of Idaho with a score of 31 (1-2-3-12-13). University of Portland was second, just two points behind the Yotes at 33. Portland is ranked 16th in NCAA Division I. Eastern Oregon University, ranked 7th in the NAIA, was third at 62. Lane Community College placed fourth at 134 and Evergreen was fifth at 138, and Corban University, ranked 22nd in the NAIA, was sixth at 167.

Winning the women's 6-kilometer competition was Rose Perotin, who ran unattached and was time at 21:53.00. Kahea Figueira from College of Idaho was the top CCC finisher, as she placed second in 21:54.06. Brionna Holso from Portland took third place at 22:19.21.

College of Idaho, ranked sixth in the NAIA women's cross country rankings, won the team title with a score of 21 (1-3-4-5-8). Portland was second with a score of 46. Eastern Oregon was third at 66, with Corban in fourth at 111, Bushnell University in fifth at 135, and Walla Walla University in sixth at 174.

The Geoducks will compete at the 49th Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5. The meet will be held in Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Oregon.
