Yotes Build Early Lead in Win over Evergreen

CALDWELL, Idaho -- College of Idaho remained undefeated on the season by defeating The Evergreen State College 4-0 on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Simplot Stadium. The Yotes scored three goals in just over 15 minutes at the start of the game to grab an early lead. 

The Yotes advanced their record to 4-0-1 on the season, 2-0-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Geoducks moved to 0-5-0 overall, 0-2-0 in the CCC.

Jorge Fernandez scored two goals and provided College of Idaho with one assist. He tallied the game's first goal at the 9:50 mark.

The next two goals were recorded by the Yotes in about a minute by Maurice Notter at 14:19 and by Eric Hornung at 15:17. Fernandez earned his second goal with just over five minutes left in the half to complete the scoring.

During the game, College of Idaho claimed a 23-11 lead in total shots, but both teams recorded 10 shots in the second half. The Yotes ended the contest with a 9-6 edge in shots on goal and a 6-3 margin in corner kicks.

Brendan Gribek (Sr., GK) achieved five saves for Evergreen. On offense, Gabriel Delgado (Jr., F) and Juan Mendez (Je., M) each took three shots for the Geoducks. All three of Delgado's shots forced saves, while Mendez forced Yotes goalie Matej Hron to make one save.

Hornung led the Yotes with six shots, including four shots on target. Fernandez registered four shots with three shots on goal. Hron received the shutout while recording five saves overall.

Evergreen will battle Northwest University at Geoduck Pitch on Friday, Sept. 27. It will be the first CCC home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. PDT.
