Frohlich-Fair Earns 19 Points in Loss to College of Idaho

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) of The Evergreen State College produced 19 points for the Geoducks in a 91-71 loss to The College of Idaho in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Friday, Dec. 19 at the Costantino Recreation Center. It was Evergreen's first home CCC game of the season. Rey Johnston led C of I with 17 points.

College of Idaho, which received votes but was not in the Top 25 in the most recent NAIA Men's Basketball Poll, shot 56.9% from the field (37 of 65) while moving to 7-4 on the season, 2-1 in the CCC. The Geoducks dropped to 0-5, 0-3 in the CCC.

On his way to scoring 19 points, Frohlich-Fair went 8 for 8 at the free throw line. He also led the Geoducks with five rebounds and was credited with two assists and one blocked shot. Nathan Behr (Sr., F) and Jayson Mathews (Jr., G) each supplied Evergreen with eight points, while Bradley Graham (Sr., G), Kenzel Massey (So., G) and Jacob Laff (So., W) each tallied seven points. Graham also earned four assists. Jemoi Davis (Sr., W) grabbed four rebounds.

Johnston earned his 17 points for C of I by hitting 6 of 12 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, and by sinking 3 of 3 free throws. He also supplied the Yotes with six rebounds and two steals. Utr9llo Morris and Reece Sasser-Gunson both scored 14 points. Sasser-Gunson provided five rebounds, while Morris earned two steals.

Conner Sheets tallied 11 points and was 3 for 5 on 3-point shots. Tucker Tiddens was credited with 10 points and six boards, while Change Winter added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Yotes shot 56.9% for the game (37 of 64) and made 7 of 21 three-pointers (33.3%). C of I was 10 for 14 on free throws. Evergreen was held to 38.6% shooting (22 of 57) and went 7 for 18 from 3-point range (38.9%). Led by Frohlich-Fair, the Geoducks finished 20 for 23 (87.0%0 from the free throw line.

Evergreen scored first on a jumper by Frohlich-Fair. The Yotes answered with an 11-0 run that ended with a basket by Chance Winter with 15:41 left in the half. Behr scored next for Evergreene to cut the margin to 11-4, and the Geoducks pulled as close as 16-9 on a 3-point basket from Laff with 13:35 to play. A bit later, a 3-pointer by Mathews moved the Geoducks within 18-12 with 12:06 on the clock.

C of I held a 23-15 lead at the 10:31 mark but ended the half with a 24-14 run. The Yotes were in front 47-29 at the break.

Frohlich-Fair tallied the first three points of the second half on a traditional three-point play. Evergreen also trailed by 15 points at 55-40 with 16:07 remaining, after Frohlich-Fair was fouled on a 3-point shot and hit all three free throws. 

College of Idaho used a 12-4 run to grab a 67-44 lead on a 3-pointer by Sheets with 12:14 left. Later, the Yotes owned a 76-50 advantage on a layup by Tiddens with 7:59 to go. Evergreen gained a 21-15 scoring edge over the remainder of the game.

Evergreen will take on Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST.
