ASHLAND, Ore. --
Mikail Montez (Sr., F/G) of The Evergreen State College earned a double-double, but Southern Oregon University downed the Geoducks 77-44 on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. SOU scored the first 16 points of the game and held a 39-25 lead at halftime.
Montez scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Geoducks. She connected on 3 of 6 three-point shots. Morgan Baird topped the Raiders with 18 points and was 7 for 14 on field goals.
Southern Oregon, ranked #2 in the NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches Final Poll, improved to 29-0 on the season. The Raiders won the CCC regular season title with a 22-0 conference mark. SOU will host College of Idaho in the CCC Semifinals on Saturday, March 1. Evergreen's season ended at 8-17 following the loss.Â
Montez was joined in double figures by
Jalyn Sackrider (Sr., F/C) with 10 points. Sackrider concluded her career in fifth place on Evergreen's all-time scoring list with 957 points. Against the Raiders on Wednesday, she also contributed seven rebounds and blocked one shot, giving her a school record 189 career blocks. Sackrider ended her career ranked second at Evergreen with 730 career rebounds.
Kadance Blankers (Jr., G) added nine points for the Geoducks. She was 3 for 6 on field goals, all from 3-point range.
Abby Mundy (Sr., G) led Evergreen with five assists.
Sydney VanNess (Sr., G/F) was held to three points, but finished her career ranked sixth in career scoring for the Geoducks with 951 points.
Baird's 18 points led three Southern Oregon players in double digits. Bridgette McIntyre tallied 17 points, while hitting 5 of 9 field goals. She was 5 of 8 on 3-pointers. She also earned nine rebounds and supplied three assists. Emma Schmerbach tacked on 16 points and hauled down five rebounds. Mallory Williams scored eight points. Meghan McIntyre registered seven points and four assists, while matching Bridgette McIntyre with nine boards.
Southern Oregon's 16-0 run to start the game ended with a layup by Meghan McIntyre with 5:04 left in the opening quarter. Montez scored for Evergreen on a 3-point shot 14 seconds later. A bit later, the Geoducks moved within 19-8 on a 3-pointer by Blankers with 1:35 on the clock. Keeley Wright sank a layup for SOU with 42 seconds to go, giving the Raiders a 21-8 edge after the first quarter.
Evergreen reduced the margin to 11 points twice in the second quarter. The second time was at 30-19 with 3:17 left in the half on a jumper by Sackrider. The Raiders answered with a 7-0 run. SOU's final five points in the run were scored on a 3-pointer by Bridgette McIntyre at the 2:26 mark and two free throws by Schmerbach with 1:54 to play.
Montez produced the first points of the third quarter with a 3-point basket to decrease the lead to 39-28. Later, the Geoducks moved as close as 42-32 following a free throw by Montez with 8:00 left in the quarter. SOU countered with a 10-2 run that featured six points by Schmerbach and four points from Meghan McIntyre. The Raiders led 54-37 at the end of the quarter and outscored Evergreen 23-7 in the fourth quarter.
SOU shot 47.3% on field goals (26 of 55) and hit 9 of 19 three-pointers (47.4%). The Raiders were 16 for 20 (80.0%) at the free throw line and finished the game with a 42-34 rebounding margin. Evergreen was 15 for 61 from the field (24.6%), including 8 for 28 (28.6%) from behind the 3-point arc. The Geoducks sank 6 of 8 free throws (75.0%).
