Geoducks Fall to Puget Sound in Men's Soccer

TACOMA, Wash. -- University of Puget Sound scored two goals in the first five minutes, and the Loggers went on to defeat The Evergreen State College 4-0 in a non-conference game at Baker Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 30. Puget Sound was playing its season opener. Evergreen dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Loggers compete in NCAA Division III and the Northwest Conference. Evergreen participates in the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Rhys Foote scored two of Puget Sound's goals in Saturday's match-up. The other goals were earned by Jackson Smith and Etienne Polak.

Smith tallied the game's first goal at the 2:50 mark. He was assisted by Ethan Lu. Puget Sound doubled its lead to 2-0 when Foote scored at 4:27 with an assist from Taj Fadool. Neither team scored during the remainder of the first half or the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Foote produced his second goal at 61:01 on an unassisted shot. The final goal was achieved by Polak just under nine minutes later at 69:55. Edgar Tamayo Gallegos assisted on the play.

For Puget Sound, starting goalkeeper Luke Mamiya and substitute Parker-Duncan Norris combined for the shutout. Each goalie played 45 minutes. Norris recorded two saves. Gabriel Wilhelm (So., GK) earned seven saves for the Geoducks while playing all 90 minutes.

The Loggers attained a 15-5 margin in total shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. Puget Sound finished with a 4-2 lead in corner kicks. 

Alex Lopez (Sr., M) took two shots for Evergreen, Sage Scheuerell (Sr., F) and Alejandro Gallegos (Sr., D) each provided the Geoducks with one shot on goal. Marvin Sea (Jr., F) also registered a shot for the Geoducks. Foote of Puget Sound led all players with six total shots and five shots on target.

The Geoducks will take on Peninsula College in a scrimmage at Geoduck Pitch on Thursday, Sept. 4. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. PDT.
