Women's Cross Country

Trefts, Clifford, Williams Lead Geoducks at Puget Sound Invite

LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Three athletes from The Evergreen State College finished in the top 20 in their respective cross country races on Saturday, Aug. 30, as the Geoducks opened the 2025 season at the Puget Sound Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 30. Izabelle Trefts (Sr.) placed 13th and Althea Clifford (Fr.) was 17th in the women's 5-kilometer race, while Evan Williams (Sr.) took 18th in the men's 5-kilometer race. The meet was held at Fort Steilacoom Park.

Trefts completed the women's race in 20:45.0. Clifford reached the finish line just over 12 seconds later and registered a time of 20:57.6. Sylvie Biesack (Fr.) of Evergreen was 21st overall in 21:25.6 and Merecedies Dupont (Fr.) claimed 27th place for the Geoducks in 22:07.0. Mara Schwenneker (Jr.) also competed in the women's race for Evergreen.

The women's individual title went to Emily Moore from the University of Puget Sound with a time of 19:27.3. She edged out teammate Erin Schmidlin, who took second place in 19:27.8. The Loggers also grabbed third place and fourth placer, as Lydia Cocciolone ended the race in 19:35.0 and Samantha Palm earned a time of 19:47.7. Lily Rock from Everett Community College was fifth in 19:55.7.

Puget Sound won the women's team title with a score of 17 (1-2-3-4-7). Everett CC was second at 65, with Pacific Lutheran University in third at 77, and the Geoducks in fourth at 83.

In the men's race, Williams claimed his 18th place finish for Evergreen with a time of 16:59.9. Osvaldo Calderon (So.) of Evergreen was 32nd in 17:33.1. Nathaniel Sanchez (Fr.) placed 38th for the Geoducks in 17:52.7, while Charles Norris (So.) was 43rd in 18:15.0 and Kaleb Everson (Jr.) was 44th in 18:16.2. Also running for the Geoducks in the men's race was Will Niskanes (Jr.).

Cian Monaghan of Puget Sound won the men's individual championship in 15:20.2. Puget Sound athlete Emerson Ingraham was second at 15:56, and Kenenisa Udo from Everett CC was third in 15:51.4. Kai Sorensen from Pacific Lutheran placed fourth at 15:56.1. Unattached runner Colin Hitchcock was fifth in 15:57.3.

The men's team title was earned by Puget Sound with a score of 29 (1-2-7-9-10). Second place went to Green River College at 65. Pacific Lutheran was third at 66 and Everett CC was fourth at 57. Evergreen claimed fifth place at 140, and Olympic College was sixth at 161.

Evergreen will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the PLU Invitational. The meet will take place on the Pacific Lutheran campus in Tacoma, Washington, starting at 9 a.m. PDT.
