Frohlich-Fair Scores 35 Points in 97-89 Loss to SOU

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) scored 35 points and earned six rebounds for The Evergreen State College, but Southern Oregon University ended the game with a 14-8 run to defeat the Geoducks 97-89 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Evergreen led 68-67 with 9:27 left, and the Raiders held an 83-81 edge with 3:47 to go, before SOU's final surge.

The Raiders upped their record to 12-7 overall, 9-2 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 3-10 overall, 3-8 in the CCC.

Frolich-Fair's 35 points were two away from his career-high of 37 points, scored in Evergreen's 104-96 overtime win at Corban on Jan. 3, 2026. He has scored more than 30 points three times this season and has earned 20 or more points nine times. On Friday, Frohlich-Fair was 13 for 18 on field goals, hit one 3-pointer, and made 8 of 10 free throws. 

Three other Geoducks reached double figures in scoring. Jayson Mathews (Jr., G) finished with 17 points and was 7 for 7 on field goals. Zach Jefferson (Sr., G) added 16 points, made three 3-pointers, grabbed four rebounds, and contributed three steals. Bradley Graham (Sr., G) produced 10 points for Evergreen, while Kohrey Bridges (Sr., F) hauled down four boards. 

Elijah Jackson tallied 27 points and made 9 of 10 field goals, including 4 of 4 on 3-pointers, to lead the Raiders. Jace Anderson followed for SOU with 20 points and was 9 for 9 on field goals. Anderson also grabbed six rebounds and tallied four steals. Gio Evanson scored 16 points to go with seven boards and five assists. Bryce Dyer earned 10 points and supplied four assists. Brady Rice matched Evanson with a game-high seven rebounds.

Southern Oregon led 29-18 with 10:56 remaining in the first half following a 3-point basket by Rice. Evergreen quickly reduced the margin to six points as Frohlich-Fair scored on a layup and Mathews sank a 3-pointer with 10:12 left to pull within 29-23. Neither team scored for more than two minutes before Anderson registered a layup for SOU at the 7:57 mark.

Evergreen rallied within 31-28 on two free throws by Frohlich-Fair and a traditional three-point play by Bridges with 6:32 on the clock. Late in the half, the Raiders owned a 46-38 lead, but Jefferson scored on a 3-pointer for the Geoducks as time expired to cut the deficit to 46-41.

Kenzel Massey (So., G) put in a 3-pointer on Evergreen's first possession of the second half to move the Geoducks within 46-44. A bit later, a 3-pointer by Jackson gave SOU a 51-44 advantage. Evergreen pulled within 55-53 on a jumper by Mathews as the clock reached 13:45. 

The Geoducks tied the score at 58-58 when Mathews hit a layup with 12:23 left. Evergreen also tied the score at 62-62 on a pair of free throws by Frohlich-Fair with 10:04 to go. Eventually, Evergreen grabbed the lead at 68-67 on a jumper by Jefferson at the 9:27 mark. The score was tied at 70-70, and the Raiders led 77-72 after two free throws from Everson with 6:54 to go. 

Evergreen pulled as close as two points four times over the next few minutes, including 83-81 after Frohlich-Fair hit a layup with 3:47 left. SOU extended its lead with a layup by Anderson and a 3-pointer by Evanson to take an 88-81 lead with 3:03 remaining. The Raiders led by at least six points the rest of the way.

During the game, the Geoducks shot 53.1% from the field (34 of 64) and made 6 of 22 three-pointers (27.3%). Evergreen finished 15 for 17 at the free throw line (88.2%). Southern Oregon was 35 of 54 on field goals (64.8%). The Raiders connected on 11 of 19 three-point shots (57.9%) and sank 16 of 17 free throws (94.1%). SOU earned a 30-22 rebounding edge. Each team earned nine steals.

The Geoducks will host Oregon Tech at the CRC on Saturday, Jan. 24. Game time is set for 5 p.m. PST.
