Frohlich-Fair Nets 20 Points in 89-76 Loss to Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) of The Evergreen State College scored 20 points, but the Geoducks lost at Warner Pacific University 89-76 on Thursday, Feb. 19 at C.C. Perry Gymnasium. It was Frohlich-Fair's 19th game with 20 or more points this season, including 17 of the last 18 games.

Evergreen ended its season with a 4-18 record, including 4-16 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball standings. Warner Pacific moved to 6-21 overall, 2-17 in the CCC.

Frohlich-Fair leads the CCC with 24.8 points per game and is ranked fourth nationally in the NAIA in scoring average. He ranks second all-time at Evergreen for points per game in a season, trailing only Nathan Menefee, who averaged 26.5 points per game in 2009-10.

In addition to scoring 20 points at WPU, Frohlich-Fair also led the Geoducks with seven rebounds and tied for the team lead with four assists and two steals during the game. Bradley Graham (Sr., G) provided Evergreen with 10 points, while Nathan Behr (Sr., F) earned nine points, five rebounds and two steals.

Kenzel Massey (So., G) finished with seven points and two steals for Evergreen. Zach Jefferson (Sr., G) was credited with four assists, two blocks, and two steals.

Warner Pacific's top performer was Isiah Salim with 25 points, seven boards, seven assists, and three steals.. He hit 9 of 13 field goals, made a trio of 3-point shot, and went 4 for 4 at the free throw line. Chad Napoleon and Nzube Mekkam each registered 12 points for the Knights. Napoleon also contributed eight rebounds. Josh Lincoln produced nine points, while Terrin Dickey hauled down nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

Evergreen led 12-8 following a jumper by Jefferson with 15:15 to play in the first half. The basket from Jefferson started a 9-0 run for the Geoducks, who extended their lead the margin to 19-8 on a layup by Graham with 13:27 left. WPU pulled within 19-18 a bit later on a 3-pointer by Nico Perez-La Costa.

The Geoducks led 21-18 after Gabriel Wigginton (Jr., W) added a layup at the 9:33 mark. The Knights scored the next seven points for a 25-21 lead with 6:21 on the clock. A pair of 3-pointers by Tyler No (Jr., G) allowed Evergreen to claim a 27-27 tie less than a minute later. WPU followed up with a 12-4 surge to grab a 39-31 lead with 2:38 to go in the half. The Knights held a 42-38 edge at the intermission.

Both teams added a layup in the first minute of the second half before Warner Pacific put together a 12-3 run to increase its lead to 56-43 with 14:39 left. The offensive outburst started with 3-pointers by Napoleon and Apollo Eugene. Evergreen reduced the lead to 56-49 after Frohlich-Fair scored on a layup with 13:14 remaining. The next nine points went to the Knights on three dunks by Mekkam and a 3-pointer by Peyton Albers for a 65-49 advantage.

Evergreen battled back to get within 67-60 on a 3-pointer by Jacob Laff (So., W) with just over eight minutes left. A bit later, the Geoducks pulled within 69-64 on a layup by Frohlich-Fair with 6:27 to go. The Knights tallied 15 of the next 20 points to take an 84-69 lead with 2:42 on the clock. 

Evergreen shot 42.7% on field goals (32 of 75) and converted 7 of 27 on 3-point attempts (25.9%). The Geoducks sank 5 of 8 free throws (62.5%) and committed 10 turnovers compared to 16 turnovers by the Knights. Warner Pacific was 34 of 68 from the field (50.0%), including 10 of 29 (34.5%) on 3-pointers. The Knight made 11 of 12 free throws (91.67%). WPU claimed a 44-35 rebounding margin.
