Glenzel and Adam Earn Double-Doubles at Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) and Habiba Adam (Fr., G) each recorded a double-double in scoring and rebounding for The Evergreen State College on Thursday, Feb. 19, but Warner Pacific University defeated the Geoducks 71-45 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball game at C.C. Perry Gymnasium. Shielteal Watah of WPU led all players with 24 points.

Glenzel earned a team-high 15 points and led the Geoducks with 12 rebounds, while contributing three assists. Glenzel was 5 for 9 from the field and went 4 for 4 at the free throw line. Adam provided Evergreen with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Jesselle Victo Castillo (Jr., PG) finished with five points and five assists for Evergreen. Sahara Soufi (Jr., G) was credited with three assists.

Warner Pacific improved to 11-15 overall and to 7-12 in the CCC. Evergreen ended its season at 1-22 overall, 1-19 in the CCC.

Watah of WPU hit 8 of 11 field goals attempts, including 4 of 6 three-pointers, on her way to 24 points. She was 4 for 4 on free throws and produced three assists. Skylar Groesbeck added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kiki Brooks scored nine points, while Alex Saunders grabbed nine rebounds to go with three assists and two blocked shots. 

Kayla Kasubuchi led the Knights with five assists. Groesbeck and Kasubuchi each achieved three steals.

The Geoducks started strong as Amaialyne Cepeda (Sr., G) made a 3-point shot just 14 seconds into the game and Evergreen held a 7-3 lead following a jumper by Soufi with 8:23 on the clock. WPU tallied the next eight points to move in front 11-7 on 3-pointers by KJ Custer and Watah, plus a layup by Matty Woolf with 5:59 left in the quarter.

Evergreen added a layup by Glenzel before the Knights went on a 5-0 run to take a 16-9 edge. Warner Pacific led 19-13 at the end of the quarter. The Knights put together an 11-1 run to begin the second quarter, including points from five players, for a 30-14 lead. WPU owned a 36-19 advantage at the 4:18 mark, but the Geoducks ended the half with 3-pointers by Victo Castillo and Glenzel to reduce the margin to 36-25 at the break.

The Knights began to pull away in the third quarter, as they opened the half with an 11-0 surge and outscored the Geoducks 19-6 during the period. Watah tallied nine points during the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Warner Pacific gained a slim 16-14 advantage in scoring, as Glenzel earned eight points for Evergreen. Adam tacked on four points for the Geoducks.

From the game, the Knights shot 43.1% (25 of 58) from the field, while connecting on 9 of 27 three-pointers (33.3%). The Knights were 12 of 15 on free throws (80.0%). Evergreen made 17 of 59 shots (28.8%). The Geoducks put through 3 of 12 three-point attempts and finished 8 for 11 (72.7%) on free throws. WPU attained a 41-37 rebounding margin.
