OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Angel Sandoval (Jr., F) from The Evergreen State College scored first at 69:08, but Southern Oregon University tallied two goals in the final 10 minutes, as the Raiders defeated the Geoducks 2-1 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer game on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Geoduck Pitch. SOU remained undefeated at 5-0-1, 2-0-0 in the CCC. Evergreen lost for the first time this season and fell to 2-1-3 overall, 0-1-1 in the CCC.
Sandoval put the Geoducks up 1-0 when he scored on a breakaway following a long pass from
Noah Blake (Jr., F) just past the midway point of the second half. Sandoval shot from 15 yards.
SOU equalized with a goal by Ariel De Dios Cruz at 81:11. De Dios Cruz scored on a 16-yard shot after a through-pass from Michael Mutchukian. Jonathan Gaspar provided the Raiders with the winning goal on a shot at 84:18. He was assisted by De Dios Cruz.
After the Raiders took the lead, the Geoducks earned corner kicks at 85:56 and 86:30 but neither corner led to a scoring chance.
Cooper Davis (Jr., D) took a shot for Evergreen at 88:45. His effort was blocked by an SOU defender.
Neither team scored in the first half. Both teams competed with just 10 players in the second half after Cruz Cuevas-George of SOU and
Kolby Juarez (Sr., M) of Evergreen received red cards with about four minutes left in the opening half.
For the game, Southern Oregon held a slim 11-10 edge in total shots and the Raiders had a 6-4 margin in shots on goal. Evergreen achieved a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
Tom Cole (Sr., GK) of Evergreen provided four saves in goal, including a couple of outstanding stops. Daniel Espinosa played in goal for the Raiders and contributed three saves.
The Geoducks will play at Rocky Mountain College in a CCC game on Thursday, Sept. 24 in Billings, Montana. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MDT / 6:30 p.m. PDT.
