HELENA, Mont. -- The Evergreen State College and Carroll College (Mont.) played a scoreless first half in their Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer game on Saturday, Sept. 26, but the Fighting Saints earned two goals in the second half to defeat the Geoducks 2-0. Carroll improved to 3-2-2 on the season, 2-0-1 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 2-3-3 overall, 0-3-1 in the CCC.
The Geoducks played the final 50:48 shorthanded after
Jesus Marin (So., M) received a red card late in the first half. The Geoducks kept the game scoreless for the final six minutes of the first half but allowed a goal just 3:35 into the second half.
Carroll's opening goal was scored by Sam Loughton. Assisting on the play were Felix Billard and Jake Dicely. The Saints doubled their lead to 2-0 when Billard scored at 66:03. It was an unassisted goal.
The Saints outshot Evergreen 32-8 during the game, with an 11-4 edge for Carroll in shots on target. Loughton topped all players with seven total shots, including four shots on goal.
Kolby Juarez (Sr., M),
Angel Sandoval (Jr., F), and
Noah Blake (Jr., Jr., F) each took two shots for Evergreen. Juarez placed both of his shots on target.
Evergreen goalkeeper
Tom Cole (Sr.) contributed nine saves for the Geoducks, giving him 23 saves in the Geoducks' two games in Montana. He tied for four on Evergreen's all-time single game list with 14 saves at Rocky Mountain College on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Noah Jorden, who played all 90 minutes in goal for Carroll on Saturday, registered four saves while achieving the shutout.
The Geoducks will take on the University of Providence in a CCC game at Geoduck Pitch on Thursday, Oct. 1. Game time in Olympia, Washington, is slated for 3 p.m. PDT.
