Women’s Basketball Closes Out 2019 Year At Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The Evergreen State College women's basketball team closed out the 2019 year at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center home of Corban and fell 67-55 Saturday evening.

Evergreen was led by Trinity Betoney, who recorded 33 points and Merrily Jones added 11 points. Anna Cook led on the rebounds with six.

With her 33 points, Betoney ranks third in school history for points in a game. The record of 36 was set in 2016 by Gabi Fenumiai and Fenumiai holds the second-best record of 34 set in 2017. Betoney holds the school record in steals set against Puget Sound of 11. With her school record at the Loggers, Betoney was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Player of the Week on Monday, Dec. 16th. 

Corban was led by Abby Forsyth, who had 18 points, Shaelie Burgess added 14 points and Shawnie Spink recorded 12 points. Bri Turner and Burgess led on the rebounds with seven.

The Warriors shot 49.1 percent from the floor to Evergreen's 33.9 percent. The Geoducks recorded eight steals on the 18 turnovers by Corban.

Evergreen is back in action in the New Year at home against Walla Walla on Jan. 3 and Jan. 4. The Geoducks will play at Noon on Friday and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
