Women’s Basketball Defeats Walla Walla At Home

The Evergreen State College women's basketball team defeated Walla Walla at home 76-55 Friday afternoon to pick up its first win of the season.

Not only was this the first win for Evergreen but also the first-collegiate win for head coach Jackie Robinson.

The Geoducks were down by as much of 16 in the second quarter but came back within seven at the half. Evergreen then took the lead at 5:34 by free throw from Merrily Jones and had their biggest lead of 21 in the fourth quarter.

The Geoducks were led by Merrily Jones, who had 28 points and Trinity Betoney had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Angela Sikora added 11 points.

Walla Walla was led by Jacqueline Saucedo, who had 20 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Jaliyah Casem added 12 points and Savanah Zamora recorded 10 points.

The Wolves shot 33.3 percent from the floor to Evergreen's 41.4 percent. WWU recorded 26 turnovers and Evergreen had 21 steals.

The Geoducks are back in action tomorrow to face the Wolves at home at 6:30 p.m.
