Men’s Basketball Falls In Hard Fought Battle

The Evergreen State College men's basketball team came back in the second half to tie the game, but Eastern Oregon held on to an 83-80 hard fought battled Friday night.

Lane Kennedy scored the first points of the game on a three, but the Mountaineers went on a 13-2 run to take a eight-point lead. Evergreen went on a run of its own to tie the game and then a layup by Raven Frazier gave the Geoducks the lead. The teams went back and forth until Evergreen went on a run to take an eight-point lead but EOU ended the first half on a 11-0 run and took the 44-41 lead into the half.

After half time, EOU had its largest lead of 10 with 12:49 left in the game but Evergreen fought back and was able to tie the game up at 67 with 5:40 left. The game would be tied one more time, but the Mountaineers held on to the win with free throw shots at the end.

Evergreen was led by LaBrandon Price, who had 25 points, Raven Frazier added 17 points and Lane Kennedy recorded 13 points.

EOU was led by Jarek Schetzle, who had 29 points, Max McCullough and Landon Jones both recorded 16 points and Josh Brown had 12 points.

The Mountaineers shot 52.7 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the 3-point line. Evergreen shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the 3-point line.

Eastern Oregon recorded 18 turnovers for the game, six of those came in the first eight minutes of the game.

Evergreen is back in action at home on Saturday to face The College of Idaho at 7:30 p.m.
