The Evergreen State College women's basketball team rallied in the second half, but came up short against Southern Oregon. The Raiders won 81-79 Friday night in Portland.
SOU was ahead by as much as 20 points in the second and took a 49-34 lead into the half. Evergreen came within five early in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 77 after
Angela Sikora hit a three with 2:22 left in the game. The Raiders took the lead after a layup and after a miss shot by the Geoducks, Evergreen had to foul and SOU made a free throw.
The Raiders fouled and Sikora went to the line and made both free throws to come within one with six-second left. Evergreen fouled and SOU made one shot and on a last second shot the ball didn't fall through and the Raiders took the win.
Evergreen was led by
Trinity Betoney, who had 20 points,
Angela Sikora recorded 17 points,
Merrily Jones had 14 points and
Jerri Maluyo recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.
Anna Cook led on the rebounds with nine.
SOU was led by Dominique Harding, who had 29 points and Kami Walk recorded 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Raiders shot 45.2 percent from the floor to Evergreen's 47.4 percent. The game was only tied the one time in the fourth quarter, otherwise, SOU had the lead. The Raiders had 16 second chance points.
Evergreen is back in action at Oregon Tech on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on the road. Â
