KIRKLAND, Wash. –
Alex Young scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute as The Evergreen State College men's soccer team defeated Northwest 3-2 Saturday afternoon on a rainy, cold day at the NU Athletic Field.
Northwest was the first to get on the scoreboard by Tyler Hopp in the 28th minute but with a foul by the Eagles in the penalty box gave Evergreen the tying score.
Gavin McLeroy hit the shot in the 38th minute.
Northwest came out of the second half and hit the shot just 38 seconds into it when Elliot Misic passed the ball to Glan Herrera for the goal. The Geoducks recorded the tie when
Maxton Hauser passed the ball up to
Brandon Clough and beat a defender for a 1-on-1 for the goal in the 50th minute.
Evergreen secured the win after Northwest fouled and
Alex Young took the free kick right into the left corner of the net.
"Fantastic win for the guys," said head coach
John Purtteman. "Great commitment to each other for the full 90 minutes. Especially big considering we lost a couple of players earlier."
Colin Hauser was back in the net for Evergreen and recorded eight saves and picked up the win.
The Geoducks recorded 17 shots for the match with nine on goal. The Eagles had 19 shots with 10 on goal.
This is the third win in a row for Evergreen over the Eagles. The Geoducks won 3-0 in 2019 in Olympia and won 2-0 in Kirkland in 2018.
Evergreen is back in action next weekend at home to close out the regular season. The Geoducks will see The College of Idaho on Friday and see Eastern Oregon on Saturday. Both matches will kick off at 12:30 p.m.
