OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College men's soccer team is headed for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Championships hosted by Bushnell as the Geoducks defeated Eastern Oregon 2-1 Saturday afternoon on the Geoduck Pitch.

Before the match, Evergreen celebrated its coach in John Purtteman and seniors Joe DiCarlo and Gavin McLeroy.

Lucas Alcala got things going for Evergreen in the second minute of the match as the goalkeeper fumbled with the ball and Alcala was right there to hit it in the back of the net.

The Geoducks got on the board again in the 79th minute when Andreas Malunat passed the ball up to Joe DiCarlo, who kept the ball on the ground and right passed the goalkeeper.

"What a great win for the guys," said head coach Purtteman. "This group has never given up on themselves. I am excited to see them extend their season!"

EOU was able to get on the scoreboard in the 85th minute but that wasn't enough, and Evergreen took the win.

The Geoducks recorded 13 shots for the match to the Mountaineers 21 shots. Colin Hauser was back in the net and had five saves.

Evergreen will be heading to Oregon for the CCC Championships to be played on Nov. 9, 10, 12. Seeding will be decided by the Conference office and released on Monday. The is the seventh year in a row Evergreen has made an appearance to the CCC Championships. In 2019, Evergreen made it to the second round.
