Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Early Goal Propels Evergreen To 1-0 Win

SALEM, Ore.- Maxton Hauser scored in the 11th-minute to propel The Evergreen State College men's soccer team past Corban, who was receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll, 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the CFC Sports Complex.

This is the first victory for the Geoducks over Corban since 2014, when Evergreen won on the road 1-0. Since then, Evergreen was on a 6-0 losing streak against the Warriors. This is just the second Cascade Collegiate Conference loss for Corban this season.

Maxton Hauser received the ball from Lucas Alcala at 10:51 for the lone goal in the match. That was Maxton Hauser's fifth goal for the season.

It was the defense and Colin Hauser that held off a late attack from the Warriors, which had 19 shots for the match with five on goal. Colin Hauser recorded five saves for the match for his third win for the season and third shutout, including one yesterday against Bushnell. Evergreen swept the weekend, defeating the Beacon yesterday 7-0.

In today's match, the Geoducks recorded seven shots with three on goal. Maxton Hauser had two shots on goal, while Joe DiCarlo had one.

"Excited for the guys to come away with six points on the weekend. The group has really embraced working to get better each week," said head coach John Purtteman.

Evergreen will be back in action at home on Friday against Multnomah and Saturday against Warner Pacific. Both matches will start at 12:30 p.m. on the Geoduck Pitch.
