KIRKLAND, Wash. – A last second three by
Sha'nece Garrett wasn't enough as The Evergreen State College women's basketball team fell to Montana State University-Northern 63-62 Saturday evening at the 5th Annual Northwest Classic.
MSUN had an eight-point lead late in the fourth quarter, but Evergreen was able to start to chip away from that lead, except the Skylight made its free throws and able to pull away with the win.
Evergreen was led by
Caitlin Yenne, who had 20 points and
Tasha Beckett and Garrett both recorded eight points. Beckett led on the rebounds with 10.
MSU-Northern was led by Peyton Kehr, who had 16 points and Danielle Tyler added 11 points. Sydney Hovde led on the rebounds with 10.
The Skylight had its largest lead of nine at 51-47 but Evergreen was able to chip away at that lead after Garret hit a few free throws, a jumper and another free throw. This was a game that went back and forth, and had eight lead changes. The last lead for Evergreen came in the third quarter at 38-37.
The Geoducks shot 38.7 percent from the floor and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. MSUN shot 33.8 percent from the floor and 84.6 percent from the free throw line and had 17 turnovers for the game.
Evergreen is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at Northwest University to open the Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Evergreen will then face Northwest Indian College at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26 in the Costantino Recreation Center.
