OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College volleyball team celebrated its three seniors Saturday night in the final match of the 2021 season, as the Geoducks fell to Eastern Oregon 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20).
Evergreen was led by
Lily Stewart, who had 14 kills and
Zoe Shaw added 10 kills.
Sierra Wolff had 32 assists for the match and
Sage Burgmeier led in the back row with 14 digs.
Eastern Oregon was led by Sade Williams, who had nine kills and Breanna Shaffer and Preslee Jensen both had eight kills. Hailey Arritola led in the back row with 16 digs and Alexis McMurtrey had 24 assists.
The Geoducks hit a .193 for the match and recorded four serving aces and five blocks. EOU hit a .278 for the match and had four blocks and nine serving aces.
After the match, Evergreen celebrated its three seniors in
Sage Burgmeier,
Lexi Sanchez and
Abigail Green. All were playing their final match in a Geoduck uniform.
It took extra points in the first set as the teams went back and forth. After a final tie at 24, EOU scored the next two points off a kill by Jensen and a serving aces from Arritola. The second set was all EOU, as Evergreen had a little come back last in the set but that wasn't enough and the Mountaineers took the win. In the final set, the set was tied at nine but EOU went on a little run. Again, Evergreen tried to go on a little run after the score was 23-18, the Geoducks scored the next two points off a kill from Stewart and an attacking error on EOU but a couple of serving aces from the Mountaineers gave them the set and the win.
