OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College women's basketball team closed out the first quarter on a 14-2 run en route to a 58-46 win over Walla Walla University on Saturday night.
The Geoducks (5-11, 4-9 CCC) were paced by a pair of double figure scorers, including
Jalyn Sackrider (20 pts.) and
Sha'nece Garret (17 pts.). Sackrider added 11 rebounds for her second-straight and third double double of the season in the win.
Lily Stewart also grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with four points in the win.
Monique Bungay found open Geoducks throughout the contest as she dished out a season-high nine assists in the win.
The Wolves (1-19, 0-13 CCC) were also able to have a pair of double figure scorers in the contest. Carolina Montes and Isabella Robles scored 16 and 12 points, respectively. Robles added 11 rebounds for a double double. Clara Wiltgen handed out five assists before fouling out to lead Walla Walla.
After an early 4-0 deficit, Sackrider and Garret got the Geoducks on the scoreboard with a jumper and a layup that put Evergreen ahead 5-4 with 6:19 left in the opening quarter. Defensively, Evergreen State limited Walla Walla to a layup by Robles for the remainder of the quarter as they built a lead for the remainder of the contest. The Geoducks would stretch the lead to as much as 20 en route to the win.
Next, Evergreen will travel to Oregon Tech on Friday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The Owls defeated the Geoducks in the earlier meeting, 68-47 in Olympia on Jan. 2.
