Owls Withstand Resilient Effort by Evergreen State Women's Basketball Team

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Sha'nece Garrett scored a game-high 24 points as The Evergreen State women's basketball team dropped a 74-66 decision to Oregon Tech in a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup on Friday night.

Garrett paced three Geoducks (5-11, 4-9 CCC) in double figures as she was joined by Trinity Baloney and Bella Jensen, who added 16 and 12 points, respectively. The trio accounted for 52 of the 66 points for Evergreen. Jensen did not miss on the night, making all five of her shots from the field that included a pair of 3 pointers.

Oregon Tech (15-5, 8-5 CCC) was led by Maddyson Tull, who had 22 points to go along with a double double from Shelby Blodgett, who had 16 points and 14 rebounds and Olivia Sprague, who added 14.

The Owls, who led from start to finish, raced out to a 13-2 lead to begin the contest. The Geoducks showed a resilient effort and rallied to tie the game at 32 with a jumper by Jensen with :29 left in the opening half. Evergreen went into the half down one, 36-35, on the strength of a 9-4 run to end the first 20 minutes.

After the Owls scored the first four points of the second half, the Geoducks on a pair of occasions cut the deficit to one. Each time, Oregon Tech had an answer to keep the visitors from taking a lead and spoil the comeback hopes.

Next, Evergreen State will travel to Ashland, Oregon to face Southern Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. The Geoducks won the earlier meeting on Jan. 1 by a 58-47 margin for their first victory over the Raiders in the last 15 meetings.
