CALDWELL, Idaho - Visiting Evergreen State rallied from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit but ended up just three points shy of host College of Idaho on Saturday at the JA Albertson Center, 64-61.
The 'Yotes snapped a four-game losing skid with the win and avenged a 24-point loss to the Geoducks in Olympia on January 14. COI improved to 15-13 on the season and to 9-11 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, while Evergreen State fell to 8-15 overall and to 6-13 in the CCC.
The home team led by a 51-38 count with 7:37 to go in the game before Evergreen State mounted a spirited comeback. The Geoducks went on a 8-0 run over a span of 1:20 to climb back in, and pulled within a single digit (55-54) with 3:49 to go on
Trinity Betoney's basket in the paint.
College of Idaho would answer, but TESC would rally back to trail by just one point three more times, including with 15 seconds left on Sha`nece Garrett's tip-in. Evergreen then fouled COI's Taryn Riley, who nailed both free throws to make the count 64-61 with 13 seconds left. The Geoducks would have one last threat, but Garret's three-point attempt at the buzzer was blocked.
Garrett had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists for TESC and Betoney also had 15 with five boards and four assists. Garrett nailed eight of ten free throw attempts and Betoney nailed all nine of her charity opportunities.
Jalyn Sackrider added 13 points and
Lily Stewart led her team with nine rebounds.
Sienna Riggle led four COI players in double figures with 16 points and nine boards.
Evergreen State returns to Olympia for their final two regular games of the season next Friday and Saturday, hosting Corban and Bushnell.
