OLYMPIA, Wash.--Visiting Corban built an 18-point first half lead that ended up being just a little bit too much for host Evergreen State to overcome during a 64-55 men's basketball game on Friday night at the Costantino Recreation Center.
The Geoducks dropped to 3-22 overall with the loss and to 3-18 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Corban improved to 18-11 on the year and to 13-8 in the CCC.Â
Something had to give in this one, as the Warriors had lost six of their last seven games and the Geoducks had fallen seven straight times.Â
It was Corban who set the pace early. Evergreen State had one lead in the first half (11-9), but the Warriors then went on an 8-0 run and would never trail again. They had an 18-point halftime lead of 39-21.
Nonetheless the Geoducks didn't go away. Three times they cut the Corban lead to nine points after intermission and
Austin Curry's lay-up with 1:43 left sliced the margin to seven points (60-53).Â
But they would get no closer than that as the Warriors closed out for the win.
Mitch Wetmore led Evergreen State with 20 points, and
LaBrandon Price added 16. Curry chipped in 15 points and six rebounds. Kendall Moore led Corban with 16 points.
Evergreen State will close out the regular season on Saturday against Bushnell (5 pm). Corban will head up I-5 to take on Northwest College.
