OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College sophomore
Monique Bungay scored a season-high 24 points in an 82-68 loss to Warner Pacific on Friday night.
The Knights (11-11, 9-8 CCC), who are battling for a spot in the season-ending CCC Tournament, were able to lead start to finish and land four players in double figures. Hannah Myers and Courtney Jackson each scored 21, plus Lynden Harry and Alexa Mee added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Myers added 12 rebounds to go along with eight assists in the win, plus Kylie Guelsdorf had 11 rebounds.
The Geoducks (6-14, 5-12) were led by Bungay, who was joined in double figures by
Trinity Betoney and
Jalyn Sackrider, who added 14 and 10 points, respectively. For Betoney, it is her fifth-straight game in double figures and for Sackrider, it is her second-consecutive game in double digits. Bungay broke into double figures for the fifth time on the season and first time since Jan. 1.
Even though WPU and Evergreen went traded baskets for the opening minutes of the contest, it was a quick 7-2 spurt that put the visitors from Portland ahead for the remainder of the contest.
Indicative of the season, there was a lot of fight in the Geoducks who cut an eight-point deficit to one at the end of the quarter, 22-21. A 14-3 run to start the second quarter by WPU ended the comeback hopes as the Knights pushed the lead to double digits for the remainder of the game.
Next, Evergreen will host Multnomah on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at the Costantino Recreation Center.
