OLYMPIA, Wash. – With the postseason fast approaching, Evergreen and Carroll College faced off for a match that had the potential to shake up the CCC standings. Each team fought their hardest to break the stalemate but the match ended a 1-1 draw.
The Geoducks (5-5-4, 4-2-4) push their unbeaten streak to five matches (two wins and three draws) and the Greeners have
Kolby Juarez to thank for his physics-defying goal in the 18
th minute to bring the match back to a tie.
The Saints (6-3-4, 6-2-3) got off to a hot start when Sean Balen scored in the fourth minute of the match to give Carroll the momentum early.
After Juarez tied the match, the defenses settled in and the passing lanes became harder to find. The score held up for the half and the teams went into the break deadlocked at 1-1.
The second half was a scramble as both teams fought their hardest to create the opportunity that would lead the goal to give their team the advantage but neither could find it. Both goalkeepers made spectacular saves to deny goals and the match ended a 1-1 draw.
This tie places Evergreen in 7
th in CCC standings with a pivotal match up against the sixth-place team, Providence, tomorrow at 12:30 PM at home.
