OLYMPIA, Wash. –
Kolby Juarez scored the lone goal of the match to secure the 1-0 win over conference opponent Multnomah University.
A strong defensive battle between the Lions (2-7-0, 0-5-0) and TESC (3-4-1, 2-1-1) meant that the first team to flinch lost, and Evergreen managed to strike first and thwart MU's counterattack to secure the win.
The early minutes of the match were spent feeling each other out as the two teams struggled to retain possession long enough to create quality opportunities on the attack.
In the 31
st minute of the match, a corner kick sent in by
Alan Barragan, went off the head of
Jordan Zimmerman and found the foot of
Kolby Juarez, who sent it to the back of the net for the first goal of the contest. TESC went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
After the break, both defenses held strong and the lead held up for the Geoducks. The first goal turned out to be the game-winning goal, as Evergreen held on to win the match 1-0.
Brendan Gribek had six saves on 15 shots faced in his shutout performance.
