OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Emmanuel Nicasio (Sr., M) scored a three-goal hat trick for The Evergreen State College on Friday, Oct. 18, but Angel Mange of Rocky Mountain College also scored three goals, as the Battlin' Bears defeated the Geoducks, 5-4, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer game. The game was played at Geoduck Pitch on the Evergreen campus.
The winning goal was scored by Mange with 1:38 remaining in the game. Rocky Mountain advanced its record to 5-5-1 overall, 4-3-1 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 2-8-1 overall, 2-5-1 in the CCC.
Each team scored twice in the first half. Nicasio opened the scoring on a tap-in at the left post following a cross from the right side by
Raymundo Curiel (Sr., D). The play began with a through pass from
Kolby Juarez (So., M) to Curiel, who sent the ball toward the goal, where Nicasio was ready to tap it into the net 19 minutes into the game. Curiel and Juarez received assists.
Ryan Daniel scored for RMC just over two minutes later at 21:23 on a header from two yards after a corner kick by Henry Chalkley. Evergreen moved in front 2-1 less than a minute later at 22:21. Nicasio recorded his second goal from two-yard out on the play, which was assisted by
Sage Scheuerell (Jr., M).
Rocky tied the score at 30:48 on Mange's first goal of the game. He shot from five yards after receiving a pass form Raul Villar. The score remained 2-2 at halftime.
The second half featured five goals, all in the final 21 minutes, including three goals in the last 10 minutes.
Evergreen grabbed a 3-2 lead on a header by
Joshua Coetzee (Sr., D) from five yards into the top middle of the net at 69:10.
Alan Barragan (Sr., M) set up the goal with a corner kick. Rocky tied the score with a goal by Manges at 74:57 on a tap-in near the left post. Igor Soares assisted on the play. RMC took a 4-3 lead at 81:45 on a 10-yard shot by Espoir Mayele. Soares earned his second consecutive assist after his shot was blocked and the ball went to Manges.
The Geoducks equalized at 4-4 on Nicasio's third goal of the game with a bit more than five minutes remaining at 84:23. Nicasio shot from 12 yards after the ball bounced off players following a corner kick. It was Nicasio's fifth goal of the season.
Mange registered the winning goal for the Battlin' Bears at 88:22. He headed the ball into the net from two yards. The play began with a corner kick by Lorenzo Klamler, who was credited with an assist.
RMC outshot Evergreen 22-9 and held a 10-5 edge in shots on target. Rocky finished with an 8-2 margin in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Brendan Gribek (Sr.) of the Geoducks produced five saves. Stefan Schenk made one save for RMC.
Evergreen will take on Walla Walla University in a CCC game on Sunday, Oct. 20 at Geoduck Pitch. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. PDT.
