Gallegos Earns a Goal for Evergreen, but Knights Win 2-1

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Evergreen State College men's soccer team attempted to rally from a 2-0 deficit at Warner Pacific University on Friday, Oct. 4, as Alejandro Gallegos (Jr., D) scored for the Geoducks with just under seven minutes remaining, but the Knights held on for a 2-1 win. The victory at the Eastside Timbers Sports Complex improved WPU to 6-3 overall, 2-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen fell to 1-6 overall, 1-3 in the CCC.

Most of the first half was scoreless, but the Knights took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Antonio Cipriano at 37:09. He was assisted on the play by Omar Tapia. Warner Pacific outshot Evergreen 6-4 in the first 45 minutes.

The Knights extended the lead when Pedro Calderon scored at 61:54. Chanin Orlandin provided the pass that led to Calderon's goal.

Gallegos hit the net for Evergreen with a penalty kick goal at 83:12. WPU goalkeeper Noe Rodriguez was called for a foul in the penalty area and received a yellow card on the play. 

Neither team managed a shot during the remaining minutes of play, as the Knights kept their slim 2-1 advantage.

Warner Pacific gained a 12-7 edge in total shots and a slimmer 7-5 margin in shots on goal. WPU also registered a 3-1 lead in corner kicks.

Emmanuel Nicasio (Sr., M) topped Evergreen with three shots -- all on target. Kolby Juarez (So., M) added two total shots with one shot on frame. Orlandin took five shots (four on goal) for the Knights.

Brendan Gribek (Sr.) achieved five saves for the Geoducks. Rodriguez finished with four saves for Warner Pacific.

The Geoducks will play at Multnomah on Saturday, Oct. 5. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. PDT.
