PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Cash Cota of Oregon Tech scored a goal at 81:43 to break a scoreless tie and send the Owls to a 1-0 win over The Evergreen State College in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer action on Friday, Nov. 1. Due to wet grounds at Geoduck Pitch, the game was played at Premier Washington on an artificial turf field.
The game's lone goal was achieved at the end of a three-shot sequence. A shot by Wolfgang Alvarado was blocked by the Evergreen defense to start the sequence. Logan Miller followed with a shot that was saved by Geoduck goalkeeper
Brendan Gribek (Sr.). The ball rebounded straight to ash, who scored from six yards out.
A scoreless first half included 11 shots by the Owls and three shots by the Geoducks. Gribek earned two great saves during the opening period. He made a reaction save low and to his right at 22:56 to stop a shot by Lennyn Solis. With 10:30 left in the half, Gribek made a leaping save to push the ball over the net on a shot by Kevin Rodriguez.
OIT finished the game with a 19-9 edge in total shots and an 8-1 margin in shots on target. Solis topped all players with six shots, including four shots on goal.
Emmanuel Nicasio (Sr., M) and
Kainoa Wong (Sr., F) each took two shots for Evergreen. The Geoducks achieved a 9-3 margin in corner kicks, including a 5-1 advantage in the second half.
The Owls competed with 10 players for the final 58:26 after Patrick Chan received a red card. Evergreen's
Juan Mendez (Jr., M) received an injury on the play and did not return to action.
Gribek finished the game with seven saves for Evergreen. Ryan Solis of Oregon Tech claimed the shutout and was credited with one save.
Evergreen will complete the season on Saturday, Nov. 2, when the Geoducks host Southern Oregon University. The game will be played at Centralia High School's Tiger Stadium in Centralia, Washington. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. PDT.
