Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) scored 17 points and
Bradley Graham (Jr., G) tacked on 15 points for The Evergreen State College, but Saint Martin's University downed the Geoducks 92-77 on Friday, Nov. 15 at Marcus Pavilion. The game was an exhibition for Evergreen, which remained 0-3 on the season. The Saints improved to 7-0.
In addition to leading the Geoducks in scoring, Joseph topped Evergreen with five assists and four steals, while earning four rebounds. He was 9 for 10 at the free throw line.
Graham hit 6 of 10 field goals and made two 3-point shots. He led TESC with five rebounds.
Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) contributed 14 points and matched Graham with a 6-for-10 shooting performance.
Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) tacked on nine points and two 3-pointers, while
Garret Long (Jr, G/W) scored seven points and hauled down four rebounds.
Saint Martn's placed three players in double figures, led by Dae-Kwon Watson, who earned 30 points and hit 9 of 20 field goals, including 5 of 13 three-pointers. He also grabbed 11 boards and registered eight steals. Diego Trejo-Delgado provided SMU with 20 points and seven boards, while Jacob Harper recorded 14 points and six boards.
Other top contributors for the Saints were Jaden Nielsen-Skinner and Immanuel Oludele. Nielsen-Skinner supplied 10 assists to go with nine points. Oludele was credited with nine boards.Â
The Saints led 14-9 following two free throws by Trejo-Delgado with 14:54 left in the first half. Evergreen answered with a 12-3 run to move in front 21-17 at the 11:44 mark. The run, which included jumpers by Joseph and Solomon, plus a jumper and a 3-pointer by Graham, ended with a 3-point basket by Jefferson.
A bit later, Evergreen held a 29-23 advantage with 8:48 to go in the half after Jefferson sank another 3-pointer. SMU put in a 17-2 run for a 40-31 with with 4:32 on the clock. Harper completed the surge with a 3-pointer.
The Geoducks scored next on a trifecta by
Kohrey Bridges (Jr., F), but the Saints owned a 50-36 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the half. Evergreen put together a 4-0 run on layups from
Jamoi Davis (Jr,, W) and Joseph to cut the margin to 50-40 at halftime.
Graham sank a 3-point shot for Evergreen to start the second half, but SMU scored eight of the next 10 points to grab a 58-45 edge with 16:56 left. Evergreen reduced the lead to 59-53 on a jumper by Graham as the clock reached 14:00. The Saints answered with a 14-3 surge for a 73-56 lead with 9:37 left.
Evergreen moved as close as 75-63 when Joseph made 1 of 2 free throws at the 6:28 mark, but Harper added a jumper for SMU 14 seconds later. The Geoducks cut the lead to 79-69 on a pair of free throws by Joseph with 4:47 to go, but Evergreen was unable to reduce the margin to single digits.
The Geoducks will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 19 with an exhibition game against the University of Idaho. Game time against the Vandals in Moscow, Idaho, is set for 6 p.m. PST.
