Evergreen Receives Double-Double from Sackrider at Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. -- A double-double highlighted an all-around strong game by Jalyn Sackrider (Sr., G/F) from The Evergreen State College in an 88-43 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Seattle University on Saturday, Nov. 23. Sackrider registered 13 points and 10 rebounds, while blocking two shots and earning two assists.

It was an exhibition game for Evergreen, which remained 0-2 on the season. The game counted for Seattle, which improved to 1-4. The Redhawks were led by Sophie Benharouga and Olivia Moore, each with 17 points. Benharouga also tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.

For the Geoducks, Allison DeBerry (Sr., G) scored 12 points to join Sackrider in double figures. DeBerry, who hit 3 of 6 three-point shots, led Evergreen with four assists and provided five rebounds. Sydney VanNess (Sr., G/F) added six points and five boards, while Honey Let Padasdao (Sr., G) grabbed five rebounds to go with three assists.

Benharouga and Moore led four players in double figures for the Redhawks. Julianna Walker supplied 12 points, Christeina Bryan tacked on 11 points, and Candy Edokpaigbe scored 10 points. Bryan matched Benharouga with seven rebounds, while Edokpaigbe and Tamia Stricklin both hauled down five boards. Sheridan Liggett provided Seattle with six assists. Bryan and Moore each achieved three steals.

The Redhawks played exceptionally well in the first quarter, as they hit 61.9% of their shots (13 of 21), including 6 of 9 from 3-point range. Seattle limited Evergreen to 20.0% shooting (3 of 15). The strong play for Seattle led to the Redhawks building a 33-9 lead in the first 10 minutes. Seattle added a 20-6 scoring advantage in the second quarter for a 53-15 halftime advantage. The Redhawks outscored Evergreen by a much smaller 35-28 margin over the final two quarters.

Sackrider scored the game's first basket on a tip-in for Evergreen. After Seattle earned the next four points, Abby Mundy (Sr., G) pulled the Geoducks into a 4-4 tie with a fast-break layup at the 8:28 mark. The Redhawks pulled away with a 17-0 run to claim at 21-4 lead with 3:40 on the clock. Moore, Walker, and Stricklin each sank a 3-pointer midway through the run. Sackrider stopped the surge with a 3-pointer for Evergreen, but Seattle ended the first quarter with a 12-2 run. 

Seattle added to its lead in the second quarter. The Redhawks recorded a 24-18 scoring edge in the third quarter and outscored the Geoducks 11-10 in the fourth quarter.

The Redhawks held Evergreen to 26.9% shooting for the game (18 fo 67). The Geoducks were 4 of 21 on 3-point attempts (19.0%) and 3 for 4 at the free throw line. Seattle shot 52.2% on field goals (36 of 69), including 40.7% on 3-pointers (11 of 27). The Redhawks finished 5 for 10 at the free throw line and held a 42-39 rebounding margin.

Evergreen will play an exhibition game for the Geoducks on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the University of Montana. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST / 6 p.m. PST.
