Packer Registers 13 Digs in Loss to #7-Ranked Raiders

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Molly Packer (Jr., L) of The Evergreen State College earned 13 digs against nationally ranked Southern Oregon University on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Costantino Recreation Center, but the Geoducks couldn't fully stop the Raiders' attack in a 3-0 loss in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Raiders entered the match ranked #7 in the NAIA Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Rating.

SOU improved to 24-3 on the season and to 18-3 in the CCC. Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon University, and Corban University are tied for first place in the CCC with one match remaining in the regular season for each team. The Geoducks fell to 4-21 overall, 4-17 in the CCC.

Packer has supplied 10 or more digs in 23 of 25 matches this season. She has accumulated a total of 461 digs for an average of 5.12 digs per set. On Friday, Packer also achieved three assists.

Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) led Evergreen with five kills against the Raiders. Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) contributed nine assists and was successful on 2 of 3 second-hit attacks for a .667 hitting percentage. Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) was credited with nine digs for the Geoducks.

Southern Oregon benefited from a balanced attack with five players recording at least five kills. Hannah Stadstad led the way with 12 kills, while Marin Mackey produced nine kills, and Megan Perry added seven. Linda Conceicao amassed 19 assists and Vitoria Mattos finished with 18 assists. Libero Kayla Neidigh topped all players with 18 digs. Mackey earned 10 digs.

An early kill for Evergreen by Perez evened the first set at 3-3. The Raiders eventually took a 12-8 lead on a kill by Sadie Byrd, but the Geoducks moved within a single point at 12-11 an 13-12. Stadstad scored next for SOU with a kill to open a 5-0 run. Down 18-12, the Geoducks responded with a 4-1 run that included a kill by Perez and a service ace by Amaialyne Cepeda (Jr., DS/L) to cut the margin to 19-16. SOU closed the set with a 6-1 run.

In the second set, the Raiders zoomed out to a 10-2 lead and later owned a 22-8 advantage. The Geoducks went on a 5-2 run to move within 24-13. The run included one kill each by Calzadillas and Marin Collins (Jr., MB), plus a combo block by Collins and Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB). A kill by Stadstad ended the set for SOU.

Evergreen tied the third set at 5-5 with a kill from Scroggins. The Raiders countered with an 11-2 run for a 16-7 lead following a kill by Megan Perry. Southern Oregon ended the match with a 25-10 win.

The Geoducks will conclude the season by hosting Oregon Tech at the Costantino Recreation Center on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. PST. Evergreen will honor its volleyball seniors after the match.
