Joseph Earns 24 Points as Evergreen Downs Northwest 85-79

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) scored 24 points, including 17 in the second half, to lead The Evergreen State College on its way to an 85-79 victory over Northwest University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game. Joseph was 7 of 12 from the field, including 2 of 4 on 3-point shots, and went 8 for 8 at the free throw line.

The win at the Costantino Recreation Center improved Evergreen to 1-5 overall, 1-2 in the CCC. Northwest dropped to 1-6 on the season, 1-2 in the CCC.

Bradley Graham (Jr., G) added 15 points and three assists for the Geoducks, while Garret Long earned 12 points, and three assists. Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) provided eight points, six boards, and three assists. Jerry Boston Jr. (Sr., G/W) tacked on eight points and three assists.

For the Eagles, Nash Wobrock contributed 212 points and 10 rebounds. Tasson Aubry-Thomas added 14 points and eight boards. Trent Williams and Rashid Potter each scored 11 points. Manuel Zapater topped the Eagles with 10 rebounds.

The Geoducks trailed 37-36 with 33 seconds left in the first half but held a 40-37 advantage at the break. Campbell sank two free throws for Evergreen with 10 seconds left, and then he forced a turnover by Northwest. Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) put in a layup for the Geoducks with one second to go.

Northwest tallied the first basket of the second half on a layup by Wobrock to pull the Eagles within a single point. Evergreen countered with a 13-5 run for a 53-44 lead with 16:01 remaining. The run included three 3-point baskets, one each by Joseph, Graham, and Boston Jr. The Geoducks never trailed in the second half.

Evergreen owned a 66-54 margin with 11:12 left following two free throws by Nathan Behr (Jr., F/W). The Eagles reduced the lead with a 10-2 run that featured a trio of 3-point shots, as Northwest moved within 68-64 at the 8:36 mark.

Several minutes later, the Geoducks were in front 75-66 after Long sank a 3-point shot with 4:04 on the clock. NU cut the margin to 77-72 on two free throws by Wobrock with 2:57 to play. Joseph tacked on a layup with 2:33 left, but the Eagles moved back within five points at 79-74 on a layup by Wobrock 22 seconds later.

Graham scored on a jumper for Evergreen at the 1:38 mark. Zapater hit a jumper for NU, and Aubry-Thomas sank 1 of 2 free throws with 54 seconds left, to cut Evergreen's lead to 81-77. The Eagles were unable to get closer.

Long made two free throws for the Geoducks with 37 seconds to go. Aubry Thomas scored for Northwest with 12 seconds left. Jordan was fouled on the in-bounds pass and sank both free throws to clinch the win.

The Geoducks made 30 of 65 field goals (46.2%), including 11 of 21 on 3-pointers (52.4%). TESC was 14 for 18 at the free throw line (77.8%). Northwest hit 30 of 66 shots from the field (45.5%) while converting 10 of 25 three-point attempts (40.0%). The Eagle went 9 for 18 on free throws (50.0%). Northwest attained a 43-35 rebounding edge.

Evergreen is set to play at Central Washington University on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. PST. The game will be an exhibition for the Geoducks.
