ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Three players on The Evergreen State College men's basketball team scored in double figures during a 111-79 loss at Central Washington University on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) registered 18 points, while
Kohrey Bridges (Jr., F) contributed 12 points, and
Bradley Graham (Jr., G) added 11.
It was an exhibition game for the Geoducks, but counted on Central Washington's record as the Wildcats improved to 7-3 on the season. Evergreen remained 1-5. CWU competes in NCAA Division II and Evergreen is a member of the NAIA.
Campbell grabbed seven rebounds, hit 5 of 10 field goals, and was 2 for 3 on three-point shots. His 18 points included a 6-for-6 performance at the free throw line. Bridges was 4 for 8 on 3-points shots and Graham went 5 for 5 on free throws.
Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) supplied the Geoducks with eight points and eight rebounds.
Tyler No (So., G) earned eight points and five assists.
Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) scored seven points and provided six assists.
Jordan Clark of Central Washington led the Wildcats with 24 points. Clark made 7 of 12 field goals, connected on 6 of 9 three-points attempts, and was 4 for 4 at the free throw line. Jamari Harris tacked on 20 points and recorded three steals.
Maverick Sanders was 7 for 10 from the field on his way to scoring 18 points. He was credited with three rebounds, three assists, four blocks, and a steal. Garrett Anerson tallied 14 points and sank all six of his three throw attempts. Calvin Holden topped the Wildcats with nine assists and eight rebounds.
Evergreen shot 42.2% on field goals (27 of 64), including 41.7% from 3-point range (10 of 24). CWU hit 38 of 65 shots (58.5%) and made 13 of 28 three-point tries (46.4%). The teams combined to sink all but one of 38 combined free throw attempts, as the Wildcats finished 22 of 22 and the Geoducks converted 15 of 16.
The Geoducks started strong. Joseph opened the game with a layup for a 2-0 lead 44 seconds into the game. After Central Washington tied the score, Evergreen went on a 9-0 run as Campbell,
Daniel Thomas (Sr., G), and Joseph each hit a 3-point shot. When Joseph completed the run with his trifecta, the Geoducks held an 11-2 advantage at the 16:20 mark. A bit later, Evergreen led 15-5 following a layup by Campbell with 14:41 on the clock.
Each team added a basket and then Central Washington responded with a 16-3 run to move in front 24-20 with 9:25 left in the half. The run by CWU featured four 3-point baskets by Clark. Jefferson cut the margin to 24-23 on a 3-pointer for the Geoducks to start a 8-2 run as TESC took a 28-26 lead. Evergreen's run also included a 3-pointer from Bridges and a layup by Joseph.
CWU regained the lead with a 3-pointer by Clark with 7:46 remaining in the half. His basket started a 15-2 run for the Wildcats for a 41-30 edge. Central Washington led 48-34 at halftime.
The Geoducks pulled within 69-58 on a traditional 3-point play by Bridges with 12:13 to go in the second half. The Wildcats answered with 11 consecutive points to start a 21-2 run and take control.
Evergreen will play at Seattle Pacific University on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Game time in Seattle, Washington, is set for 6 p.m. PST. It will be an exhibition game for the Geoducks.
