Evergreen Falls to Seattle Pacific in Men's Basketball

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College was defeated by Seattle Pacific University 110-47 in a men's basketball exhibition game for the Geoducks on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Brougham Pavilion. Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) provided the Geoducks with a team-high 15 points.

The game counted for Seattle Pacific, which improved to 3-9 on the season. Evergreen remained 1-5 overall. SPU competes in NCAA Division II and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Geoducks participate in the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Jefferson connected on 5 of 12 field goals and made 2 of 5 shots from behind the 3-point line. He was 3 of 4 at the free throw line. NIck Gutierrez (Sr., G) supplied Evergreen with eight points, including two baskets from 3-point range. Garret Long (Jr., G/W) supplied six points, four rebounds, and two steals. Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) added six points and three boards.

Also for Evergreen, Kohrey Bridges (Jr., F) hauled down four rebounds and Bradley Graham (Jr., G) contributed three assists. TESC shot 29.0% from the field (20 of 69) and made 3 of 5 free throws. Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G), the team's leading scorer, did not play.

The Falcons received 30 points from Trace Evans, who also finished with four rebounds and three assists. He hit 13 of 16 field goal attempts and was 1 for 2 from 3-point range. He went 3 for 3 at the free throw line. Henry Sandberg tacked on 14 points to go with four rebounds for SPU. He was 5 of 7 from the field and 3 for 3 on free throws.

Jonas La Tour and Logan Kinlach each tallied 11 points for SPU. Kinlach also grabbed seven rebounds. Jaxon Nap earned 10 points and a game-high 12 boards, while Mason Landdeck accumulated 10 points and eight assists.

Seattle Pacific shot 65.3% on field goals (47 of 72), including 9 for 22 (40.0%) on 3-pointers. The Falcons were 7 for 7 on free throw attempts.

The home team scored the first six points of the game, including two layups by Evans and one basket by Nap. Evergreen cut the margin to 6-2 at the 16:55 mark in the first half on a jumper by Campbell. Seattle Pacific replied with 16 consecutive points for a 22-2 advantage with 13:52 left in the half. The offensive surge by the Falcons included six different scorers.

Evergreen moved within 22-7 when Jefferson sank a 3-pointer with 12:32 on the clock. SPU built its lead to 54-24  at halftime. The Falcons gradually pulled away in the second half.

The Geoducks will return to Cascade Collegiate Conference play against Warner Pacific University on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m . PST.
