Graham Scores 13 Points, Davis Grabs 9 Boards in Loss to WPU

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Bradley Graham (Jr., G) finished with 13 points and teammate Jamoi Davis (Jr., W) grabbed nine rebounds, but The Evergreen State College fell to Warner Pacific University 68-56 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Friday, Dec. 20. Tre'von Cason topped Warner Pacific with 19 points for the Knights.

WPU improved to 6-3 on the season, 1-3 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 1-6 overall, 1-3 in the CCC.

Following Graham on the TESC scoring list was Jerry Boston, Jr. (Sr., G/W) with nine points. Senior guards Jourdain Joseph and Nick Gutierrez each tallied seven points. Davis' nine rebounds led Evergreen, while Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) hauled down eight boards. Graham provided five rebounds and three steals, while connecting on 6 of 8 free throws. 

Cason of WPU was joined in double figures by Terrin Dickey, who scored 13 points for the Knights. Cason led Warner Pacific with nine rebounds and three steals. Vincent Warren ended the game with seven points and seven rebounds.

Evergreen shot 33.3% from the field (19 of 57), while Warner Pacific shot 33.8% (22 of 65). The Geoducks were 12 of 15 at the free throw line (80.0%). WPU was 20 for 28 on free throws (71.4%). The Knights claimed a 45-44 rebounding edge.

Warner Pacific gained an 8-3 lead, but Evergreen used a 14-3 run take a 17-11 advantage with 10:53 left in the first half. The run ended with seven consecutive points on a trifecta by Daniel Thomas (Sr., G) and layups by Graham and Davis. The Geoducks led by seven points three times, including 24-17 on a layup by Gutierrez with 8:07 to go. The Knights outscored Evergreen 16-6 to close the half with a 33-30 lead over the Geoducks.

WPU opened the second half with a 6-0 run, including a 3-pointer by Cason, as the Knights increased their advantage to 39-30. Boston Jr. tallied the next basket for Evergreen, but Warner Pacific held a 43-33 lead at the 16:01 mark after Dickey hit two free throws. WPU's lead moved between eight and 10 points until a traditional three-point play by Jurrien Sparks for a 51-39 edge with 12:14 to go.

The Geoducks reduced the margin to 54-49 on a 3-pointer by Garret Long (Jr., G/W) with 7:14 on the clock. Cason hit a layup for WPU with 6:46 to go, as he started a 6-0 run to give the Knights a 60-49 lead. Later, a layup by Boston Jr. pulled TESC within 62-53 with 4:09 left, but Cason sank two free throws at the 3:20 mark. Warner Pacific held a double-digit advantage during the remainder of the game.

Evergreen will take on Multnomah at the Costantino Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 21. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST.
